Without question, The Annotated Christmas Carol is the most authoritative and entertaining edition ever produced.
What would Christmas be without A Christmas Carol? Charles Dickenss famous ghost story is as much a part of the season as plum pudding and mistletoe, and Michael Patrick Hearn, the celebrated annotator of The Wizard of Oz and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, has prepared this sumptuous, thoroughly annotated edition, which has already become the definitive edition of our century. Initially published by Norton in 2004, this was the first edition to combine the original text of 1843 with Dickenss Public Reading text that he performed in America in 186768, which had not been reprinted in nearly a century. Included are rare photographs as well as the original Leech wood engravings and hand-colored etchings, supplemented by other contemporary illustrations by George Cruikshank, Gustave Doré, John Tenniel, and Phiz. The Annotated Christmas Carol will be a literary feast for the whole family for generations. 2-color throughout, 100 black-and-white illustrations, and 8 pages of full color [via]More editions of The Annotated Christmas Carol:

Bleak House is a satirical look at the Byzantine legal system in London as it consumes the minds and talents of the greedy and nearly destroys the lives of innocents--a contemporary tale indeed. Dickens's tale takes us from the foggy dank streets of London and the maze of the Inns of Court to the peaceful countryside of England. Likewise, the characters run from murderous villains to virtuous girls, from a devoted lover to a "fallen woman," all of whom are affected by a legal suit in which there will, of course, be no winner. The first-person narrative related by the orphan Esther is particularly sweet. The articulate reading by the acclaimed British actor Paul Scofield, whose distinctive broad English accent lends just the right degree of sonority and humor to the text, brings out the color in this classic social commentary disguised as a Victorian drama. However, to abridge Dickens is, well, a Dickensian task, the results of which make for a story in which the author's convoluted plot lines and twists of fate play out in what seems to be a fast-forward format. Listeners must pay close attention in order to keep up with the multiple narratives and cast of curious characters, including the memorable Inspector Bucket and Mr. Guppy. Fortunately, the publisher provides a partial list of characters on the inside jacket. (Running time: 3 hours; 2 cassettes) [via]

Dust jacket notes: "This is the first book edition of a remarkable set of 45 lost wood engravings from 1861 by Gustave Dore, the great French illustrator. Recently discovered in an obscure old French magazine, they somehow eluded the grasp of scholars for the last 135 years. Apparently, even Charles Dickens did not know of their existence. They are by far the largest set of Victorian engravings for the story, and they include the first drawing ever made of Tiny Tim! But this beautiful Christmas gift book is much more than that. It also contains the full text of A Christmas Carol, plus all the other early sets of illustrations for the story (by Leech, Phiz, Abbey, Barnard, etc.) making a total of nearly 200 Victorian engravings! The dust jacket front cover features several of the lost engravings, colorized by artist Mike Nicastre. A scholarly introduction by Dan Malan, who discovered this set of lost engravings while writing a major reference work on Dore, explores the significance of the lost engravings and the relationship between Dickens and Dore, with lists of their illustrated editions...." In the history of English literature, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, which has been continuously in print since it was first published in the winter of 1843, stands out as the quintessential Christmas story. What makes this charming edition of Dickens's immortal tale so special is the collection of 80 vivid illustrations by Everett Shinn (1876-1953). Shinn, a well-known artist in his time, was a popular illustrator of newspapers and magazines whose work displayed a remarkable affinity for the stories of Charles Dickens, evoking the bustling street life of the mid-1800s. Printed on heavy, cream-colored paper stock, the edges of the pages have been left rough, simulating the way in which the story might have appeared in Dickens's own time. Though countless editions of this classic have been published over the years, this one stands out as particularly beautiful, nostalgic, and evocative of the spirit of Christmas. [via]
