The author of the present version, then, has no knowledge that a rendering of this wonderful poem into the exact and ever-changing metre of the original has, until now, been so much as attempted. To name only one defect, the very best versions which he has seen neglect to follow the exquisite artist in the evidently planned and orderly intermixing of male and female rhymes, i.e. rhymes which fall on the last syllable and those which fall on the last but one. Now, every careful student of the versification of Faust must feel and see that Goethe did not intersperse the one kind of rhyme with the other, at random, as those translators do; who, also, give the female rhyme (on which the vivacity of dialogue and description often so much depends,) in so small a proportion.

Over the years they collected decals for their van windows from forty-six states, the District of Columbia, and six Canadian provinces.
In college Ivon studied elementary education and music; she holds a B.A. degree from West Texas State University. She and her husband raised three daughters, all musicians and book lovers. Ivon worked for fourteen years as a volunteer teacher's aide and library aide at their schools. She is now busy turning her first granddaughter into a book lover as well.
Continuing the family travel tradition, the Cecils have strolled through history in San Antonio, Texas, and Old Fort Wayne, Indiana; rambled along the ocean on Padre Island; hiked through mountains and canyons all over the southwestern U.S.; and trekked underground through the Carlsbad Caverns. Ivon has an extreme fear of heights, so when ladders or steep trails are involved, she keeps a firm grip on her husband's elbow.
In 1986 Ivon blended her interests in children's books and creative writing, studying with popular children's author Dian Curtis Regan. Within a year she made her first two sales to children's magazines and joined the Society of Children's Book Writers. Fourteen years later, she's still writing. She has contributed to two anthologies from Highlights for Children and to Choices, a third-grade language arts textbook from Kendall-Hunt Publishing (1993). Her work has appeared in a number of magazines, including Highlights for Children, Pockets, and Guide. She wrote a column on the juvenile market for ByLine Magazine from 1989 to 2000. Kirby Kelvin and the Not-Laughing Lessons (1998) is her first book for children.

Judy Love lives near Boston, Massachusetts, with her husband, Alan, and their two sons, Matt and Tom. A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, she has illustrated numerous children's books. [via]
