It's A.D. 95, and everybody wants a piece of the Apocalypse. Some will kill to destroy it. Others will die to protect it and to remain faithful to the One it proclaims. A storm at sea and an assassination attempt thrust a Roman senator and a wool merchant's son into a conflict between earthly powers and God's kingdom. Flavius and Antonius, both believers in Christ, are about to make a startling discovery: a mysterious scroll, written by the apostle John, that unlocks the secrets of present, past, and future. The Apocalypse---the book of Revelation. Their find comes at a time of great persecution for the early church. The Imperial Cult is spreading Caesar-worship across the Roman province of Asia, and pressure to bow down to the emperor Domitian intensifies by the day. Flavius, Antonius, and their loved ones must stake their lives on what they believe---for the Imperial Temple has learned about the Apocalypse, and they will stop at nothing to destroy it and the church it has empowered. The Greek-English Concordance to the New Testament is an exhaustive index to three Greek texts: UBS4, Nestle-Aland 26, and the Greek text underlying the New International Version of the Bible. FEATURES: * Lists all occurrences of a given Greek word (even where there is not a direct English equivalent) in Greek alphabetical order * Shows the interrelationship between the English and Greek texts, including redundant cognates and repeated Greek words, as well as multiple-word translations * Uses the Goodrick-Kohlenberger numbering system (with cross-reference to Strong's numbers), allowing for accurate identification of Greek words and use with The Zondervan NIV Exhaustive Concordance * Keyed to the Bauer-Arndt-Gingrich-Danker Greek Lexicon (BAGD) and The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology (NIDNTT) * Exhaustive NIV-to-Greek index * Includes a phrase concordance for phrases such as Son of Man, kingdom of God, etc. [via]

Bernard Ramm's Protestant Biblical Hermeneutics, published in 1956, attracted a broad spectrum of Bible readers and set the tone of biblical interpretation for a whole generation of evangelical students. An Introduction to Biblical Hermeneutics could have a similar role for this generation at the end of the twentieth century. Almost every assumption that Ramm made has been challenged and tested by the winds of modernity and post-modernity. The severity of the changes from earlier patterns of thinking is reflected in the subtitle to this book, The Search for Meaning. This book is distinctive from others on hermeneutics in that the authors, rather than writing from a single viewpoint, hold differing opinions on many issues. There are more areas where they agree than disagree, including the authority of Scripture and the primacy of authorial meaning; but where they disagree is precisely where the issues are most crucial for the future. So the readers are invited , in effect, to eavesdrop on a vibrant dialogue between two scholars and to reach their own conclusions. Despite the convivial tone, the readers must not mistake how great the stakes are. In a culture that prizes individuality and personal freedom, the primary question is no longer 'Is it true?' but rather 'Does it matter?' hence the question of relevancy has taken precedence over the questions 'What does the text mean?' This book therefore confronts the question of meaning and shows how evangelicals may still clearly hear the Word from God amid the cacophony of the age. [via]

A fresh---and perhaps controversial---look at Jesus by one of Britain's most respected Christian authors. Who is the real Jesus? Do we remake him in our own image and then wonder why our spirituality is less than life-changing and exciting? Steve Chalke---a high-profile visionary in the United Kingdom and an evangelical recognized not only by Christians but by the general public as well---believes that the real Jesus is deeply challenging. And each new generation must grapple with the question of who he is, because only through a constant study of Jesus are we able to discover God himself. The Lost Message of Jesus is written to stir thoughtful debate and pose fresh questions that will help create a deeper understanding of Jesus and his message. It is an encounter with the real Jesus of his world---not the Jesus we try to mold to ours. Themes include: *The Kingdom of God---shalom---is available to everyone now, through Jesus *The world outside your own church needs to hear of the depth of God's love and suffering *Jesus was a radical and a revolutionary! *Jesus offers immediate forgiveness, without cost, to anyone *Jesus shows us repentance isn't a guilt-laden list of dos and don'ts, but an inspirational vision of a new way to live Focusing on some of the key episodes, events, and issues of Jesus' life, we will see how too often the message we preach today has been influenced more by the culture we live in than the radical, life-changing, world-shaping message Jesus shared two thousand years ago. Time has sealed the reputation of Matthew Henry's classic commentary as a rich source of insight into God's word. Four centuries after its first publication, it remains one of the best-loved, most popular commentaries ever written. However, while its wisdom is timeless, the English language has changed much through the years. Words that meant one thing in Matthew Henry's day have taken on different meanings today. In addition, Henry's often wordy reflections are generations removed from the crisp style that communicates most effectively to contemporary readers. The Zondervan NIV Matthew Henry Commentary is a masterful response to these concerns. It delivers the heart and soul of Henry's incomparable writings in a style that is easy to read and understand. -Dr. Leslie Church's meticulous abridgment retains the essential content of the original work. - Easily misunderstood words have been replaced with modern ones while keeping Henry's style. - Use of the New International Version (NIV) instead of the King James Version makes this edition fully compatible with today's most widely used Bible translation. In one volume, here is a wealth of exposition, metaphors, analogies, and illustrations, ideal for - Personal devotions - Bible study - Sermon and lesson preparation [via]
