Mrs. Dalloways Reflexionen, wie überhaupt die inneren Monologe des Romans, bilden den eigentlichen Kern der Handlung, während die Darsteller puppengleich auf dem gesellschaftlichen Parkett agieren. Dieses fast filmisch anmutende Übereinanderschichten gleichzeitiger Ereignisse griff die Autorin in ihrem späteren Roman Die Wellen erneut auf.

The Christian-like doctrine of Tolkienism has attracted a substantial following. During the Soviet era, The Lord of the Rings was a banned book, which was translated independently by a number of underground translators. The result of this is that there are numerous contemporary published translations competing with each other for the reader's attention. There are 10 translations of The Lord of the Rings; 9 translations of The Hobbit and 6 translations of The Silmarillion. Each translator has a slightly different approach to the text. Each translation has a slightly different interpretation of Tolkien. Each translator has a different story to tell. Most of the existing translations are only Tolkienesque, they are not really Tolkienian. They have been adapted to the Russian mental climate. This book relates the history of the publication of Tolkien's works; examines the philosophical distortions introduced by the competing translations, attempts to explain their origins and how they will be perceived by the Russian reader. Und dann kommt auch noch die fürchterliche Tante Magda zu Besuch. Einfach grässlich. Aus Versehen lässt er sie mit einem kleinen Schwebezauber an die Decke abheben. Eigentlich bricht er damit eine Regel der Zauberer. Aber Harry droht kein Schulverweis, denn das Zauberministerium schützt ihn, da man vermutet, der gefürchtete Verbrecher Sirius Black -- aus dem gut bewachten Gefängnis Askaban entkommen -- ist hinter Harry her.
Harry rätselt, was Black mit ihm zu schaffen hat. Bei einem nächtlichen Gespräch erfährt er, dass dieser am Tod seiner Eltern beteiligt war.
Joanne Rowling lässt ihre Fantasie Purzelbäume schlagen und als erwachsener Leser kann man sich nur wünschen, immer so jung zu bleiben, dass einem dieses Buch Freude bereitet. --Manuela Haselberger

In sechs großen Kapiteln -- von "Essen und Trinken" bis "Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft" -- haben Krämer und Sauer solche Merkwürdigkeiten versammelt, jeweils mit einer kurzen Erläuterung, manchmal auch mit einem Zitat, das das auf dem Prüfstein stehende Wort enthält. Auch wenn Sie schon wissen, dass Baumwolle nicht auf Bäumen wächst und dass Nilpferde keineswegs Pferde, sondern Schweine sind, wird dieses Buch Sie wieder und wieder überraschen können. Denn die Hängematte hat sprachlich weder mit "hängen" noch mit "Matte" zu tun, Kümmeltürken kommen eigentlich aus Halle an der Saale oder Jena, das Weißbrot ist im Grunde ein "Weizenbrot", der Rosenmontag hat nichts mit Blumen, sondern mit "rasen" zu tun.
