412pp , ABOUT THE AUTHOR :: Milan Kundera ( n . Brno, April 1, 1929 ) is a Czech writer in Czech and French. Since 1975 lives in France , whose citizenship acquired in 1981 .. He was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia on April 1 , 1929. His father, the musicologist and pianist Ludvík Kundera ( 1891-1971 ) , was director of the music academy . After the Second World War, Kundera joined the Communist Party, of which he was expelled after the events of 1948. He had to earn a living from various occupations , particularly as a jazz pianist , instrument that his father had taught to touch very early age. That same year finishes high school and began studying literature and aesthetics at Charles University in Prague , but after two semesters passed to the Film Faculty of the Academy of Prague , which ends in 1952. In 1956 he rejoined the Communist party was finally expelled in 1970. he taught film history at the Academy of Music and dramatized Art from 1959-1969 , and later at the Institute of film Studies in Prague. His first novel, The Joke , was translated into twelve languages and obtained in 1968 the Prize of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers . In 1968 , following the Soviet invasion of his country, his works were banned and became unemployed . In 1975 he managed to emigrate to France . Between that year and 1980 , he taught comparative literature at the University of Rennes , and later at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes in Paris . Life is elsewhere obtains the Médicis Award for best foreign novel published in France during his appearance . His next novel, Farewell , won the Mondello Prize for the best book published in Italy. In 1981, the whole work of Kundera deserved in the United States Commonwealth Award, given simultaneously to all the play by Tennessee Williams .
