About the book:

One hundred and seventy years have passed since the Hudson's Bay Company abandoned the fur trade fort they named Peigan Post. In that time, local memory of what happened at Old Bow Fort, as it came to be called, has dimmed and changed. Located by the Bow River near the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, the doors of Peigan Post were open for a brief two years. In that time, its occupants waged a struggle to attract the trade of the Peigan Indians away from the American Fur Company, who were better situated to trade with the Natives, and who had ready access to better shipping on the Missouri River. The Hudson's Bay Company employees were also surrounded by warring bands of Blackfoot, Blood, Cree, Sarcee and Stoney, none of whom were pleased by HBC's attempts to cater to the Peigan. Maps, photos and material from Hudson's Bay Company journals and archives lay out the brief but valiant story of Peigan Post, bringing to light a piece of Long-forgotten Southern Alberta history.
