About the book:

Warmhearted short fiction about both ordinary and out of the ordinary people. Examples:

"Young Witch Seeks True Love"  Brianna was not a very good witch. She had failed Spells 101 and she wasn't very good at Bi-location either. She could do a few tricks, but that didn't count for much. Even non-witches could sometimes do tricks. Her lack of skills was beginning to get her down.
She wasn't bad looking for a witch. No obvious deformities that stood out. Certainly, no one would call her beautiful.Yet, there was definitely something you could see about her if you looked hard enough. Cuteness? Yes, that was it. It appeared in her pert smile, which she was careful not to display too often. . .

"So what is so important you need to tell me right away?"
"Better sit down, Nick." Nicked rolled his eyes and took a seat.
"Nick, there's something about me that you should know."
     "This is getting interesting."
"Really, I'm serious. This is hard for me to say."

"The Mistake"
Already, it was getting dark. Opening the door she felt a cool breeze. She put her jacket on and set out. As she walked, the sky turned indigo, and the stars began to appear. First only the bright ones, and then gradually the night sky became filled with twinkling stars. So beautiful. She zipped her coat against the cold, and on the horizon of the distant hill the last vestiges of daylight gave way. Soon, it would be totally dark.
A person appeared in the distance, a vague shape, nothing more. Whoever it was seemed to tarry, as if waiting for her. Not normally apprehensive, she wondered who it could be. A friend perhaps? Her mind ran through the possibilities. As she came closer, she began to think it no one she knew, a stranger.
"Hi, Melissa, remember me," he said.
She knew the voice immediately. "Tommy," she said as calmly as she could. . .

"A Catch" Paul looked out the bedroom window of his estate. His manicured lawn led out to the wetlands where ducks and deer could frequently be seen. He had selected this site for his small mansion tucked far away in the suburbs. At only twenty-eight he was a very successful man. Son of migrant farmers, who eventually settled down, he had risen far above his heritage and had even changed his name. His given name, Pablo, wasn't good enough for him.
Paul loved the lifestyle, and he had no difficulty making executive decisions and directing others. He had a talent, a gift, for knowing what to do and when to do it. He was highly regarded, and as he was still single, sought after by women who could see a fine future with him. And yet, he was lonely. Successful as he was, he had not had success in love. . .
