About the book:

VOLUME 2 : LENSES....It's certain that anyone interested in the subject of this book already knows the name James L. Lager. His early books and articles, and nearly a quarter century of work with the Leica camera have justly earned him the title; leading Leica authority. In recent years Jim undertook the monumental task of gathering all of his years of research to publish LEICA, AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY, VOLUME I - CAMERAS. It was introduced in 1993 to great acclaim both here and abroad. Jim has continued his efforts by publishing VOLUME II - LENSES, exceeding Volume I with over 1100 photographs. A comprehensive color section adds yet another dimension to this stunning work. Volume II includes many never before seen photos and covers virtually all of the lenses produced by Leitz from the introduction of the Leica I Anastigmat in 1925 and the long list of screw mount lenses, through the M and the R optics, to the very latest developments introduced at Photokina '94. The emphasis is on production lenses, but many non-production lenses are also included. The quality of the images is superb, clearly photographed with no hint of the difficult conditions under which some of the photos were taken. As in Volume I, the printing is unsurpassed. The vast number of Leica photographs Jim has taken over the years made a single volume im¬practical if not impossible. He would have been forced to eliminate too many, or to significantly reduce the size of the photos. Thoroughness and life size images where possible are the hallmarks of Jim's efforts. He has again published a tour de force, a perfect compliment to Volume I. This edition; LEICA, AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY, VOLUME II - LENSES provides the enthusiast with a clearly delineated and beautifully printed pictorial essay on the history of the superb optics from the famous house of Leitz.
