Norton Art Gallery is pleased to present this major retrospective exhibition of paintings, watercolors, and graphics by the young, talented marine artist, Loren D. Adams, Jr This exhibit is the twelfth in our "Contemporary Realist Series" presenting works by some of the most important contemporary American and British artists who have previously had a major showing of their work in the Southern United States. Mr. Adams first came to our attention through several advertisements which appeared in Southwest Art magazine, and especially his feature article in that magazine's June, 1976, issue. After viewing several of his paintings, the Gallery's staff and special exhibition committee agreed unanimously that Loren Adams talents for painting the sea in all of its many dramatic moods and colors warranted inclusion in our "Contemporary Realist Series." Mr. Adams is the third marine artist to be included in the series. More than a year in preparation, this exhibition is the second largest collection of works by a contemporary artists ever shown at the Norton Art Gallery, and is the largest exhibit of Mr. Adams' works to date. Quite naturally, an undertaking of this scope and magnitude would have been impossible without the generous co-operation of the lenders, many of whom were willing to lend their entire collection of the artist's works to this exhibition.
