About the book:

From the Foreword:
"I cannot overemphasize the relevance of this book to the assessment of what students learn in the normal course of college and university studies and employer-managed and entrepreneurially run training and education programs. The standards and principles of good practice in assessment are the same, wherever and however the learning takes place. As the first of the cardinal standards herein stated says, experience per se is not to be substituted for documented learning assessed by competent, objective experts. Whether the experience is in the classroom, on the campus in the laboratory or studio, on the job, or in an intensive hi-tech training program, different learners learn differently from these experiences, and the only sound basis for giving recognition for learning is the assessment of the actual learning and competence achieved.
