About the book:

Xenophon (c. 430-355 B.C.) wrote these Memoirs in avowed vindication of Socrates' memory. They cover a wide range of topics, including Socrates' self-defense against the charges of heresy and corrupting the young, his attitude towards food, drink, sex and self-discipline, moral values and aesthetics, personal relationships and friendship, education and physical fitness. Xenophon's entertaining Symposium is one of the earliest examples of an important literary genre (of which Plato's was the first), in which a party of friends conduct a conversation, not always serious, on a set topic.
