› Find signed collectible books: '21st Century Natural Philosophy of Ultimate Physical Reality'
This book develops a 21st century Metaphysics and Natural Philosophy based on the Physics of Quantum Theory, and Special and General Relativity. It suggests that modern Physics reduces Metaphysics to a much simpler form than the Metaphysical speculations of recent centuries. It returns to the original monistic ideas of Thales (and his successors) and shows that Nature at the sub-quantum level leads directly to the view that the universe is composed of one substance that can assume a variety of forms that we call elementary particles and can also have a "lack" of form (by being an infinite superposition of all forms) that we call the vacuum. The Natural Philosophy presented in this volume is based on the general nature of quantum field theory, and particularly on modern Elementary Particle theory. Among items of interest is a precise modern view of Causation and Change, a proof that all physical Reality is contingent, the introduction of a new Modality based on the concept of contingently necessary, an explanation of the nature of time and space, a demonstration that The Standard Model of Elementary Particles is ultimately based on Logic, as well as many other points differentiating 21st century Metaphysics from classical Metaphysics. In the interests of reaching a wide audience, there is no mathematics in this work. Those wishing to see mathematical detail are directed to earlier work by this author.

This Second Edition extends the First Edition of The Algebra Of Thought & Reality: A New Operator Formulation For Classical & Quantum Logic Obviating Logic Paradoxes & Gödel's Undecidability Theorem; and Giving a Mathematical Basis For Plato's Theory Of Ideas, And Reality - The Standard Model Of Particles in several ways. There are three important new sections. One section discusses Observers both in the formulation of Operator Logic and in the Quantum Reality in which we live. The second new section discusses space-time. It shows the need for Time since, for example, proofs are stated in (time) steps as are experiments and phenomena in Reality. Since we see events at various spatial locations the concept of space must appear in Reality. Consistency with the spinor formulation of Operator Logic leads to four-dimensional space-time. The third section deals with the Concept of Being as substance and form from philosophic and modern particle physics points of view. Lastly, some additional comments appear in the text. The additional topics presented in this edition serve to solidify the connection of Operator Logic (Ideas-Thought) with Blaha's derivation of the Standard Model (Reality as we currently know it). Thus the chain from Operator Logic to the Standard Model is more solid and based on known entities while other attempts at comprehensive theories of Reality are usually based on unobserved and/or less justifiable constructs, and thus are less compelling. Both editions describe a new formulation of Logic -- Operator Logic. It appears to resolve all of the paradoxes that have beset Logic since the 19th century. It reduces the importance of Gödel's Undecidability Theorem by showing how to generally, and consistently, exclude undecidable propositions from a mathematical-deductive system or its corresponding calculus. These books also show how Plato's theory of Ideas and Reality, and their mathematical relation, is mirrored by the development of the Standard Model of Elementary Particles from the mathematical framework of Operator Logic. These editions can be viewed as the precursors of the derivation of the Standard Model given in Blaha's book "A Complete Derivation of the Form of the Standard Model with a New Method to Generate Particle Masses."

This book is a design study for a superluminal starship, driven by thrust generated by tachyonic quark particle acceleration, capable of reaching the stars in this galaxy, and ultimately in other galaxies, in short periods of earth time ranging from months to a few years. It is a further development of the starship proposal described in the book To Far Stars and Galaxies by this author with a new, simpler starship engine design, and additional detail on starship requirements for suspended animation and nuclear engines as well as construction requirements. The book proposes that the starship project can proceed far more rapidly by leveraging the investment in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN by modifying it to be a starship engine prototype after it has performed its scheduled elementary particle experiments in the next 6 - 8 years (perhaps longer if the LHC makes major discoveries). The enormous expenditure in constructing the 27 km LHC tunnel and other supporting accelerator tunnels can be "recovered" by the conversion of the LHC to a starship prototype with superluminal drive, and testing starship engine concepts and performance. The starship venture is of great potential significance to the future of Mankind. The cost is relatively small; the benefits are potentially enormous. This book is the scientific version of "All the Universe." It has significantly more technical detail than the other version.

The current major problems in particle physics and astrophysics are the source of possible new features: of The Standard Model, of the nature of Dark Matter, of the nature of Dark Energy, and of the nature of the Big Bang. In this book we propose an extended version of The Standard Model based on earlier work that adds another SU(2)X U(1) symmetry to the usual Standard Model, and an accompanying set of particles that we propose are the constituents of Dark Matter. This additional symmetry follows directly from a geometrical foundation for space-time within a 16 dimensional flat space that we call the Flatverse. Upon introducing a form of quantum coordinates we find that The Standard Model in those coordinates has no infinities, that the Big Bang is finite (no singularity), and that the Dark Energy that fuels the expansion of the universe has inflatons that consist of the imaginary part of the quantum coordinates - a free abelian gauge field. This field first stabilizes the universe in the Big Bang period and then causes a massive inflationary expansion. The complete theory has a remarkable convergence of features that remove infinities, identify the nature of Dark Matter and of Dark Energy, specify a physically acceptable Big Bang, and predict the observed expansion of the universe. In addition we address the recently reported discovery of the Higgs particle that "explains" the origin of the masses of the other elementary particles but does not explain the origin of the Higgs particle mass terms and thus leaves open the ultimate question - What is the origin of mass and inertia? We show that the only final answer can be that it arises as a separation constant in Higgs dynamic equations that include coordinates of this universe and a sister universe. These two 8-dimensional universes are embedded in the 16-dimensional Flatverse. Thus the sister universe is the ultimate source of mass and inertia for our universe. The Flatverse is an absolute reference frame that is consistent with Einstein's General Relativity according to General Relativists. The Flatverse very nicely provides an environment for the two universes - joining them together to provide mass and inertia at their most fundamental level as well as providing, at last, a concrete definition of inertial reference frames. Result: a fundamental synergy between mass, inertia, and inertial frames. In recent weeks major experimental findings on Dark Matter have been presented that at last begin to clarify the nature of Dark Matter and its interactions with "normal" matter. These findings are consistent with a Dark Matter SU(2) X1 U(1) set of interactions that parallels, to a great extent, the known ElectroWeak interactions of normal matter. We will explore a detailed theory of Dark Matter interactions, and their relation to ElectroWeak interactions in this book. It is based on our previous work. In the previous work we did not specify a relation between ElectroWeak and "DarkWeak" interactions due to the absence of experimental data. With the information now in hand we can develop a detailed relationship. Lastly, the book emphasizes again our belief that the origin of particle physics lies in a combination of Asynchronous Logic and space-time geometry.

This First Edition of Cosmos and Consciousness presents a simple idea with potentially profound implications not only for Science but also for Philosophy. It develops a new foundation at both a popular, and a technical level, for current fundamental theories of elementary particles, the Standard Model and SuperString Theory. Both of these theories can be placed on a quantum computer language foundation. The idea: elementary particles such as electrons, quarks and so on can be viewed as the "letters" or symbols of a cosmic alphabet, or cosmic code, in a computer grammar (language). A new view of reality emerges from this perspective: the universe is one "tremendous" word. This new theoretical basis is consistent with all known physical experiments and theory.
Cosmos and Consciousness explores this challenging idea showing how fundamental physics theories can be based on quantum computer languages, and incidentally developing many new features of Quantum Computers. A Quantum Computer is a type of computer that is based on quantum mechanics. One of its most important features is that "computations" take place probabilistically. A quantum computation does not have one result or answer; there is a spectrum of results with each result having a certain quantum probability of being produced by the Quantum Computer. When two particles collide, as they do in particle accelerators, a "particle" Quantum Computer produces a spectrum of possible output particle states - each with its own probability of being produced.
The obvious analogy of "the universe as a word" to religious and philosophical concepts such as the "Word" leads to a comparison of this view with parallel ideas in these disciplines. It brings Science to a startling similarity with the religious concept of the Word - a concept that is not only Christian but is also prominent in Judaism, and was prominent even earlier in the Ancient Egyptian religion 5000 years ago.
With the universe reduced to a word - structured by the laws of physics - and matter reduced to symbols the book shows the insubstantiality of the universe in its most fundamental parts. Human Consciousness is similarly insubstantial. So Cosmos and Consciousness then analyzes human Consciousness and shows it can be viewed as a classical probabilistic computer. A classical probabilistic computer is similar to a Quantum Computer with the main practical difference being that its probabilities are not quantum but classical in origin. The author shows that the relation between consciousness and the brain is analogous to the relation of a personal computer Windows display and the computer's brain - the chips and electronics. The computer display normally shows no evidence of the electronics generating it just as consciousness shows no evidence of the brain electronics that it is based on.
The book develops "Personified Physics" - an extension of the conventional idea of the quantum mechanical observer to include other aspects of Consciousness such as Free Will. The result is a unified view of Man and the universe. Man (i.e. intelligent life) is implicit in the most fundamental laws of Physics.
Along the way many interesting side topics are explored such as communication with other semi-intelligent earth species, communication with aliens through Project SETI, the nature of communication and language, the origin of symbols such as the Egyptian ankh in natural phenomena, and the nature of physical theories.
The book has many parts that can be easily handled by the non-technical reader. One interesting chapter presents astronomical and archaeological data (from the author's expedition to Egypt) suggesting the ankh hieroglyphic may have originated in a giant Megacomet that appeared in the skies of Egypt between 7,000 and 10,000 years ago.
This book should be of interest to the layman, archaeologists, physicists, computer scientists, mathematicians, and students of Consciousness. The style is simple, clear, easy reading except for some technical chapters. The book presents frontier results in a way that should appeal to many readers.

This breakthrough book establishes deep connections between elementary particle theories such as the Standard Model and Superstring theories, and computer languages such as Assembly language, C, and C++ suitably extended. It also proves, for the first time, that the universe must be quantum in nature based on Godelżs celebrated theorem (that there are statements in any non-trivial mathematical deductive system that cannot be proved or disproved.) Therefore all attempts at building a deterministic fundamental theory of physics (such as Bohmżs theory) are unacceptable.

This book, A Finite Unified Quantum Field Theory of the Elementary Particle Standard Model and Quantum Gravity Based on New Quantum Dimensions and a New Paradigm in the Calculus of Variations, develops a new formulation of quantum field theory. Within this framework, a finite unified quantum field theory of the known forces of nature - electromagnetism, the weak interactions, the strong interactions and gravity - is created. The conventional Standard Model is the large distance limit of the elementary particle sector of the unified theory. The Quantum Gravity sector is finite in this formulation. Its large distance limit is Einsteinian gravity. This unified theory contains no divergences - thus solving a major problem that has bedeviled quantum field theory for the past seventy years. The theory is based on a new form of hidden dimensions: Quantum Dimensions, that only manifest themselves at ultra-high energies. Some new phenomena that result are: Unification of QED, Weak Interactions, Strong Interactions and Quantum Gravity; Finite - No divergences; Finite also with massive vector bosons: No need for Higgs mechanism; Low Energy Limit: Approximates Standard Model (and QED) to arbitrary accuracy; Suggests possible doubly charged dilepton resonances; Large Distance limit of Quantum Gravity: Newtonian gravitational potential; No ultra-microscopic Black Holes; A New form of hidden dimensions: Quantum Dimensions; A New form of interaction: Dimensional Interactions; and A New paradigm (type of problem) for the Calculus of Variations.

This book examines the true core of philosophy and metaphysics, taking account of quantum and relativity theory as it applies to physical Reality, and develops a line of reasoning that ultimately leads us to Reality as it is currently understood at the most fundamental level - the Standard Model of Elementary Particles. This book develops new formalisms for Logic that are of interest in themselves and also provide a Platonic bridge to Reality. The bridge to Reality will be explored in detail in a subsequent book, Relativistic Quantum Metaphysics: A First Principles Basis for the Standard Model of Elementary Particles. We anticipate that the current "fundamental" level of physical Reality may be based on a still lower level and/or may have additional aspects remaining to be found. However the effects of certain core features such as quantum theory and relativity theory will persist even if a lower level of Reality is found, and these core features suggest the form of a new Metaphysics of physical Reality. We have coined the phrase "Operator Metaphysics" for this new metaphysics of physical Reality. The book starts by describing aspects of Philosophy and Metaphysics relevant to the study of current physical Reality. Part of this development are new Logics, Operator Logic and Quantum Operator Logic, developed in earlier books by this author (and revised and expanded in this book). Using them we are led to develop a connection to the beginnings of The Standard Model of Elementary Particles. While mathematics is essential in the latter stages of the book we have tried to present it with sufficient text discussion to make what it is doing understandable to the non-mathematical reader. Generally we will avoid using the jargon of Philosophy, Logic and Physics as much as possible.

The Origin of the Standard Model This book derives the form of the Standard Model of Elementary Particles from thirteen fundamental postulates. In addition a theory of Dark Matter and Dark Energy naturally emerges from this derivation upon the addition of two more postulates. The Standard Model theory can be simply united with Quantum Gravity to obtain a unified theory of all known forces. The key postulate for the Standard Model derivation is that Nature has a GL(16) symmetry that is broken to a GL(4) x GL(4) symmetry. The dimensions of one of the GL(4) representations (its coordinates) are compactified and its only remnants are the three known generations of fermions and a fourth generati...

› Find signed collectible books: 'Physics Beyond the Light Barrier: The Source of Parity Violation, Tachyons, and A Derivation of Standard Model Features'
1. We show that tachyons exist within Black Holes. 2. We extend Special Relativity to include left-handed (Superluminal) transformations to reference frames moving at relative velocities greater than the speed of light. This set of transformations forms a group that includes the Lorentz group as an invariant subgroup. The speed of light does not change under the transformations of this group. We find new features in frames moving at a relative speed greater than the speed of light such as length dilation, time contraction, and tachyons decaying into more massive tachyons - "reverse fission." 3. Using the (Superluminal) transformations of this enlarged group we are able to define tachyons of half-integer or integer spin. We show these tachyons are local and satisfy canonical commutation relations in light-front coordinates (the "infinite momentum" frame). Thus a standard quantization procedure is possible and a conventional light-front perturbation theory can be constructed. 4. Free spin ˝ tachyons violate parity and CPT but do not violate C or T invariance. 5. The requirement of Left-handed Extended Lorentz group covariance implies an extended Dirac equation for spin ˝ particles with doublets of spin ˝ particles: a Dirac particle and a tachyon. We identify neutrinos with tachyon members of lepton doublets, and "d-type" quarks with tachyon members of quark doublets. 6. Further considerations lead to most features of the Standard Model for one generation of leptons and quarks. Thus the general form of the Standard Model, including a rationale for the form of parity violation, SU(2)?U(1), and left-handed doublets and right-handed singlets, is derived. 7. The theory requires quark confinement. The theory does not explain the existence of three generations or the mixing of generations. SU(3) is found to be the minimal symmetry group of the strong interaction if spin ˝ baryon bound states are to exist.

This book develops a new energetic/thermodynamic basis for the cyclic nature of civilizations. The growth of a civilization is due to the ability of the civilization to acquire and utilize resources for growth. The theory developed turns out to be identical to Blaha's previously developed theory, which successfully matches the history of 50+ civilizations. The energetic/thermodynamic theory appears in studies of superorganisms such as ant and bee colonies as well as other organisms including colonies of microbes. It also appears in theories of predator-prey populations such as wolves and rabbits. The consideration of superorganisms, predator-prey population cyclicity, and human civilization cyclicity suggests that there is an underlying unity in Nature in the growth of large groups of organisms and leads to the conclusion that civilizations are superorganisms. Thus this new model of civilizations is called SuperCivilizations. The book begins by overviewing superorganisms including some exciting new evidence for microbial superorganisms on land and in the deep sea. Subsequently we discuss almost all of the known human civilizations within the framework of this theory. We also consider the Richardson theory of arms races and show that Richardson's equations are identical to those of our energetic/thermodynamic model of civilization dynamics. With a suitable choice of parameters the arms race theory has cyclic solutions (as well as the exponential solutions studied by Richardson) that describe the dynamics of armaments growth in the United States - Russia confrontations from 1981 - 2010. The book also describes a program for the exploration and the colonization of the Solar System and a new means of travel to the stars and galaxies with a view towards the development of a space civilization. The probable effects on contemporary human civilizations of meeting an alien civilization are also described in detail. Because of a close analogy with Newtonian dynamics, and realizing that chance plays a major role in human history, the book also develops a probabilistic theory of civilization dynamics. The cyclic theory of civilizations is also generalized to a civilization theory for populations with three interconnected population segments: a dominant minority/leadership, followers, and external immigrants. This generalized theory leads to the cyclic theory of civilizations under reasonable conditions.

This book is the Second Edition of the ground-breaking book on faster-than-light travel Bright Stars, Bright Universe: Advancing Civilization by Colonization of the Solar System and the Stars using a Fast Quark Drive which described a new approach to spacecraft propulsion that could enable Mankind to travel to the stars, and beyond, to the galaxies of the known universe. In this edition we add Appendices to the original edition (together with a few minor changes to the First Edition) on Seeing and Navigating through the Cosmos on superluminal starships; Complex Thrust using Braided Accelerators; Suspended Animation to keep the biological clocks of starship occupants in sync with earth time; Engineering very long life starship and life support components; Robot guidance and robot exploratory starships; and Fuel consumption on starships. At the time of this writing the United States appears headed towards a deficit of ten or eleven trillion dollars over the next ten years. It appears that a likely cost for starship R&D would be of the order of half a trillion dollars spread over perhaps thirty years - a small amount relative to the projected US deficit - with an enormous reward for success. On a yearly basis this expense averages to about seventeen billion dollars per year. Since the NASA budget is eighteen billion dollars a year, the cost of the starship program is comparable and quite affordable. The formation of an international consortium would further reduce the per country costs. If the United States paid sixty per cent of the costs then its share would be about ten billion dollars per year. It is a venture of great significance to the future of Mankind. The cost is relatively small; the benefits are potentially enormous! In a series of recent books we explored the theoretical importance of superluminal (faster-than-light) particles called tachyons in the derivation of the form of the Standard Model of Elementary Particles. We also showed some of the remarkable features of superluminal particles such as reverse fission, length dilation, and time contraction - quite the opposite of sublight phenomena. In this book we examine the possibility of superluminal starship propulsion for interstellar exploration and colonization. We begin the book with a statement of the earth's present condition and the need to expand into space or face a slow decline into a cultural and social miasma. Then we develop a new plan for the exploration and colonization of this solar system since it appears that current announced plans have missed the mark and do not have an overall long-term approach. Since this solar system lacks enough planets that are congenial for human life we consider the possibility of colonizing planets around other stars. Many plans have been proposed for interstellar spaceships - starships. But they are usually impractical for some good reason(s). In this book we will consider superluminal (beyond light speed) starships based on tachyon dynamics. They provide a practical means of starship propulsion although much R&D must be done before the proposed starships can be built. Once built they will support speeds up to 5,000 to 30,000 times the speed of light and beyond making the universe Mankind's backyard. Travel times to other galaxies could be as short as a few months. Superluminal starships open the door to a vast expansion of humanity into the universe in the large! As world population grows, and human social needs also grow, the capacity of the world to mount a major space effort will diminish. So a major space initiative with a well-thought out game plan is required now, while we still have the resources.
