Book summary: Introducing books to help your students increase their word power! Our new Building Vocabulary Series introduces students to important vocabulary skills in an innovative and humorous way.
Each book contains 44 lessons that make learning and practicing fun for students. A lesson includes: are: an 11" x 17" chart with a riddle about a person, place, or thing, each charmingly illustrated, which students must solve correctly in order to add a new word to their vocabulary.
In Building Vocabulary Grades 3-4, the riddle topics are taken from classified ads -- Lost, Found, Help Wanted, Job Wanted, and For Sale. The following vocabulary concepts and language skills are addressed: synonyms, antonyms, homophones, multiple-meaning words, idioms, defining words, categorizing and labeling functions, explaining similarities and differences, and completing analogies.
Riddles are easy enough for students to experience success, motivating interest in the lesson where more difficult vocabulary concepts are taught. Charts may be introduced as a whole classroom lesson, within a language arts center, as independent seatwork, or as a "filler" activity for those extra classroom hours.
Also included: notes to the teacher that provide suggestions, extension activities, and answers to the chart and student page, plus a reproducible activity page for students that extends the vocabulary and language concepts presented on the chart. All 88 pages perforated for easy removal.
