  Rarely is a comic-book world as claustrophobic as that of Phil Amara's The Nevermen. The dark city is filled with gloomy alleys and capped by drafty rooftops; its citizens are all clothed in mystery and seem to have business outside the book's plot. The title characters are five nearly identical trench-coated crime fighters scouring their city of evil and searching for their missing partner. The beautifully drawn villains are too numerous to keep up with. From the fez-wearing Cthulhoid gentleman to the zombie crime lord, they usually exit as swiftly as they appear. The story falls just short of living up to its Phil Dick-inspired promise, but it is nevertheless satisfying and well worth a dozen readings. --Rob Lightner [via]
