A translation of the Necklace of Clear Understanding by Yeshe Gyaltsen, a guide to the functioning of the mind and mental events.
Basing this work on the Abhidharma and Lama Tsong Khapa's teachings, Yeshe Gyeltsen surveys the mind and its functions, including all the various states of mind and emotions. These include all the various positive and negative states of mind, such as concentration, confidence, self-respect, diligence, alertness, and equanimity - and arrogance, deceit, jealousy, laziness, forgetfulness, drowsiness, shamelessness, malice, resentment, opinionatedness, indecision, spite, dishonesty, gloominess, worry and myriad others. Positive mental attitudes produce positive situations for man`s growth, while negative ones have the opposite effect and any emotion effects the whole mind. While negative emotions merely reinforce negative attitudes, positive emotions lead to growth and health.
"Until we thoroughly examine the nature of our mind, we cannot really be aware of who we are or why we are here. Without an awakening into true knowledge, we can only continue to create problems for ourselves and others." Tarthang Tulku.
