This competitively priced package combines Mechanics for Engineers: Statics, 4/e (0-07-004580-1) with Mechanics for Engineers: Dynamics, 4/e (0-07-004582-8). These scalar-based introductory engineering mechanics texts, ideally suited for engineering technology programs, provide first-rate treatment of rigid bodies without vector mechanics. The fourth edition provides an extensive selection of new problems and end-of-chapter summaries. The texts bring the careful presentation of content, unmatched levels of accuracy, and attention to detail that have made Beer and Johnston texts the standard for excellence in engineering mechanics education. See the individual text ISBNs above for more information.

This text, widely used and highly regarded in it first edition, is intended for the core course in mechanics or strength of materials which is generally taught at the undergraduate level. Well known for its clarity and accuracy, the book also provides a wealth of problems, most of which are new in this edition. Tutorial software accompanies each book. The book is constructed in units, each consisting of one or several theory sections followed by sample problems and a large number of homework problems. Chapter 1 provides student with a review of concepts learned in the statics course. Noted for its clear explanations, the book offers students a better understanding of and an intuitive feel for problem-solving in a graphical format and in a numerical format. More than 80 percent of the problems are new and their number has been increased. Half of the examples, sample problems, and problems are in U.S customary units, half in S.I. units. Computer problems, four or more per chapter, have been added. By solving them students will acquire a small library of programs which they will be able to use in later courses, Interactive tutorial software for IBM PCs is packaged with each book; each tutorial illustrates a specific concept in the text. New chapter-opening material states the purpose and goals of the chapter and describes the material to be covered and its application to the solution of engineering problems. A review and summary section has been added at the end of each chapter and includes helpful marginal notes. The optional material on singularity functions, now in chapter 7, is particularly well adapted to the use of computers.

The approach of the Beer and Johnston texts has been utilized by hundreds of thousands of students over decades of engineering education. The Statics and Mechanics of Materials text uses this proven methodology in a new book aimed at programs that teach these two subjects together or as a two-semester sequence.
Maintaining the proven methodology and pedagogy of their other textbooks, Beer and Johnstons Statics and Mechanics of Materials combines the theory and application behind these two subjects into one cohesive text. A wealth of problems, Beer and Johnstons hallmark Sample Problems, and valuable Review and Summary sections at the end of each chapter highlight the key pedagogy of the text.

The new 3rd SI editions of two of the most successful engineering texts ever published have undergone substantial change and revision. Ferdinand Beer and Russell Johnston have retained their clear writing style as well as the wealth of excellent problems and logical presentation of the theory. The accuracy of the theory, the problems and the artwork ensures that undergraduates will grasp the concepts essential for the remainder of their student and professional careers. The 3rd SI edition contains a new four-colour design, and the software that accompanies the text is completely new, containing interactive modules with animations of free-body diagrams, and quizzes to accompany every subject.

For the past forty years Beer and Johnston have been the uncontested leaders in the teaching of undergraduate engineering mechanics. Over the years their textbooks have introduced significant theoretical and pedagogical innovations in statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials education. At the same time, their careful presentation of content, unmatched levels of accuracy, and attention to detail have made their texts the standard for excellence. The new Seventh Edition of Vector Mechanics for Engineers: Statics and Dynamics continues this tradition. The seventh edition is complemented by a media and supplement package that is targeted to address core course needs for both the student and the instructor.
