TO SYNTHESIZE THE AIMS OF RELIGION AND THE METHODS OF SCIENCE This was the mission of the original Equinox-a massive work printed during the early twentieth century in ten large volumes and several subsequent books. It has long been out of print, and even when republished it is beyond the economic reach of most students. This 1 volume condensation contains all the important magickal writings from the original, edited and arranged by Israel Regardie so that the student can "find his way through the maze more easily." Crowley said of the Equinox: "My special job was to preserve the Sacred Tradition, so that a new Renaissance might in due season rekindle the hidden light..." That Renaissance is now. Here we have a "masterpiece of instruction"-systematizing in masterful prose the subject matter of the occult, stripping it of the "superstition, dross and fantasy" encrusted on it over the ages. One section deals with the history, grades and official program of the Magickal Order, the A.". A."., founded by Crowley; another with the Law for this New Aeon. A 3rd is one of the most lucid texts on yoga available. A 4th delineates magickal rituals, which, like yoga, serve to unite the mind to a single idea: an essential to the Great Work. Here are included basic rituals, methods of consecration, of invocation of elements and elementals, the Mass of the Phoenix and the Gnostic Mass, and the sublime "Vision and the Voice." Also included is a section on sex magick Gems from the Equinox focuses on the techniques for the achievement of ecstasy, the attainment of Godhead. Aleister Crowley is the major philosopher of the occult during the first half of the 20th century, and one of the world's great mystics. Israel Regardie, a former secretary of Crowley's, has written a biography of him (Eye in the Triangle, Llewellyn, 1971) and is in addition a respected student of the occult-a man, in short, perfectly suited to distill the essence of the Equinox.
