In her introduction, the author says, "The Story of Adamsville is a science fiction. I wrote it to dramatize basic sociological concepts. Gabiel Knapp, the main character, is a human mutant living in the early 21st century. He is a citizen of Adamsville, a growing colony of mutants located in a desert in the southwestern United States. The mutants, called "greens", look normal until they are about 25 years old, when the skin can be expected to turn green because of the chlorophyll it contains."
